Cal Dugas

Cal Dugas, 75, of South Bend, Ind., died on Friday, Feb. 23, in Memorial Hospital. He was born in West Allis, Wis., on July 8, 1925. Cal was married to Dottie () Dugas, from Racine, Wis., for 53 years. Surviving along with his wife are his son, Scott of Tallahassee, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara of Kendallville, Ind., and Tracy of Binghamton, N.Y.; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

Cal served in the Navy Air Corps during World War II. While in the Navy Air Corps V5 program, he attended Purdue University, Oberlin College, and Saint Mary's in California. While at Purdue, Cal played varsity football for the 1944 team and, while at Saint Mary's, was the heavyweight wrestling champion. After the war he earned a degree in business from the University of Wisconsin. He worked in business and sales until he retired from Gaska Tape in 1991. He was a lifetime member of Elks Lodge 235, Toastmasters, and the Maurice Mathys Little League. Cal was an ardent advocate of women's rights, and was an enthusiastic contributor to the South Bend Tribune's "Voice of the People."

 

Cal's sister, Irene currently resides in Green Bay, Wis., and his late brother, Charles, lived in Racine. Cal will be dearly missed by his family whom he loved.

 

Friends may visit the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 27, immediately followed by a service of remembrance conducted by son-in-law, the Reverend Arthur M. Suggs.
