Alex M. Dukai

February 17, 1914 – March 22, 2007

 

SOUTH BEND – Alex M. Dukai, 93, of South Bend IN, passed away at 2:22am Thursday, March 22, 2007, in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.

 

Alex was born on February 17, 1914, in South Bend IN, to Joseph and Theresa (Horvath) Dukai.  He retired in 1979 from Bankers Dispatch.  He was also employed with the former Studebaker Corporation.  On August 30, 1941, he married Ann J. Cenkush, who preceded him in death on February 26, 2001.  Also preceding him in death were five sisters and two brothers.  Survivors include his daughter, Cynthia (Gary) Reese of Granger IN; his son, James (Nancy) Dukai of South Bend IN; four grandchildren, Corey (Kari) Dukai, Trebor Grontkowski, Angela Reese, and Rebecca Reese; and a great granddaughter, Iris Laymon.

 

Private funeral services will take place, with burial at Highland Cemetery.  Alex was a WWII Navy veteran and a member of Owl Sports.  He played baseball, hockey and softball for Studebaker.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Notre Dame sports, “Da Cubs” and his dog “Gidget”

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the St Joseph County Humane Society, The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Center, or to Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.  Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
