Sister M. Imelda CSC, 83, one of the oldest members of the Congregation of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s College, died suddenly Friday afternoon in the convent, where she had spent the last several years of her life. She had taught English for many years and was one of the best known and most beloved figures at St. Mary’s. Born as Katherine Dunde in Ireland in 1858 she entered the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1875. She taught at St. Mary’s Academy in South Bend, and later in Austin, Texas; Ventura, Calif.; and in the Academy of Holy Cross at Fort Wayne from 1882 to 1890. She returned to St. Mary’s 10 years ago. She was a cousin of William T. Breen, of Fort Wayne, who gave large sums of money for buildings at the University of Notre Dame.

 

The funeral will take place in the convent chapel at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with internment in the Community Cemetery.
