James H. Dunfee, Sr.

James H. Dunfee, Sr., 72, of Port Richey, Fla., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died at 8:22 a.m. on Friday, April 25, in Columbia Bayonet Point Medical Center, Port Richey.

Mr. Dunfee was the owner of the Jim Dunfee Insurance Agency and of Century 21 Jim Dunfee Realty for 40 years, retiring in 1986.

 

He was born Oct. 10, 1924, in South Bend, to Louise (Byrum) and Samuel H. Dunfee, who preceded him in death. A brother, Robert W. Dunfee, also preceded him in death in 1993.

 

He lived in South Bend until moving to Port Richey in 1986, and also lived briefly in Urbana, Ill.

 

In 1946, in South Bend, he married Marjorie Ann Forrester, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Lynn (William) Watson of Wabash, Ind.; a son, James H. (Mary) Dunfee, Jr., of South Bend, who has been associated with him in business since 1973; and by four grandchildren, Chad Watson of Roann, Ind., and Beau, Alexandra and McCormick Dunfee, all of South Bend.

 

Mr. Dunfee was past president of the South Bend-Mishawaka Board of Realtors, past president of the South Bend Multiple Listing Service, past president of the Morris Park Country Club, a member of Four Lakes Country Club, Portage Lodge 675, F & AM Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and the Orak Shrine Temple of Michigan City.

 

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 84th Infantry Division of the Army in the European theater. He was a former member of Elks Lodge 235.

 

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Rev. Harris Schultz, interim pastor, will officiate.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will take place in Florida, with burial in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger (Ind.) at a later date.
