Joseph H. Dunfee

SOUTH BEND - Joseph H. Dunfee Sr., who founded Associated Realty in South Bend, now called The Prudential Joseph C. Dunfee Realtors, died Feb. 3 in Carnavaca, Mexico. He was 90.

 

Mr. Dunfee founded Associated Realty in 1945. The firm was a Michiana Gallery of Homes franchise until 1989 when it switched to Prudential and took on the name of Dunfee's son, Joseph C. Dunfee.

 

Mr. Dunfee was also a former employee of the South Bend News Times, Whitcomb & Keller, and was a former president of the South Bend-Mishawaka Board of Realtors.

 

He was born Jan. 30, 1906, in Etna Green, and lived in South Bend until moving to Mexico in 1970.

 

In 1931, in South Bend, he married Martha M. Murphy. She died in 1957. In 1959, he married Mary Jane Hastings Gaff. She survives with a daughter, Frances Dunfee of Naples, Fla.; five sons, Jude and Bruce, both of Apple Valley, Calif., Barry of St. Joseph, and William H. and Joseph C., both of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Cheri Millman of Atlanta; a stepson, Tom Gaff of South Bend; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Laura Dunfee of Plymouth, Barbara Donaldson of South Bend, and Lois Elliott of Charlottesville, Va.; and a brother, Arnold of Lake Placid, Fla.

 

Memorial services will be in South Bend at a later date. Gayosa Funeral Home, Carnavaca, Morales, Mexico, handled arrangements.
