Ruby Louise Dungey

Mrs. Ruby Louise Dungey, 68, departed this earth on October 23, 2001 in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Ruby, affectionately known as 'Granny', was born on April 7, 1933 to James and Mary (Perry) Allen in Terre Haute, IN. Granny moved to South Bend at an early age and resided here until her passing.

 

Granny was preceded in death by both parents, James and Mary Allen; one brother, Samuel Knox; three sisters, Francis Cottee, Marian Johnson and Elizabeth Stewart; and three special nephews: Randy Sales, Johnny Towles and Andre Owens.

 

On March 28, 1958, Granny was united in holy matrimony to Melvin L. Dungey who survives along with five children: Jon Paul Williams, Deborah Clark and Shevawn Ware, all of South Bend; Mark (Pamela) Dungey and Wayne (Felisha) Dungey of Austin, TX; a special daughter, Ms. Donna LaTour of Minnesota; three sisters, Ella Mae Tillor, Carolyn Armstead and Lucille Allen, all of South Bend. Twenty grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive Granny. Special friends who will cherish Granny's memory include: Mrs. Mary Blake, Dr. Virginia Calvin, Mrs. Eleanor Chism, Mr. and Mrs. Tom and Ann DeBaets, Mr. Frank DeCleen, Mrs. Sandy Gandy, Mrs. Elizabeth Howell, Mrs. Callena Irby, Mrs. Ernestine Love, Mrs. Pauline Moore, Mrs. Connie Shambry and Mrs. Yvonne Wright.

 

Granny was employed by the South Bend Community School Corporation as a Lead Bus Driver for over twenty years, where she made many friends and touched the lives of numerous children she met.

 

In lieu of a traditional funeral, Granny has requested that a memorial service be held in her memory. The service was held on Friday, October 26, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 North William Street, South Bend, IN.
