Alice J. Dygulski, 94, of Mishawaka, passed away Monday evening, November 14, 2005, in Fountainview Place of Mishawaka.

Alice was born April 28, 1911, in Mishawaka, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Jakeway) Bickel. She grew up in Mishawaka where she graduated from Mishawaka High School. While bowling, Alice met a young man named Bert Dygulski. The couple married in St. Joseph Catholic Church on January 16, 1933. They lived in South Bend for a few years before settling in Mishawaka. Alice was a homemaker and worked during Christmas time at the Post Office. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Rosary Society. She supported many missions of the Catholic Church. Alice was a staunch Democrat and worked elections for 42 years with the Democrat Precinct Committee Women. She was well-known for her cake baking and for years baked cakes on Saturday for the rectory and convent. Alice volunteered with Real Services and served lunches at the Battell Center. She also volunteered at St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka. Other pastimes included bowling and playing bridge. Alice cleaned and fried fish that her husband would catch, and she hosted many large crowds in her home for fish fries.

Alice's surviving family includes three sons, Bob (Cheryl) Dygulski of Mishawaka, Jim Dygulski of Cassopolis, MI, and Ron (Janet Gregory) Dygulski of Union, MI; five grandchildren, Derek Dygulski, Ryan Dygulski, Sarah Dygulski, Denise Hayvaert and Deann Dygulski; and three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lyndsay and Samuel.

Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; three brothers, William "Jay," Louis and Bernard; and four sisters, Louise Bickel, Margaret VanderBosch, Bridget Bickel and Mary Roberts.

Prayer services will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Mishawaka. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Friday.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
