A very distressing calamity occurred on the river last night in the drowning of Albert Eberhart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eberhart, who live just east of town on the north side.

The young man, in company with his cousin, Palmer Eberhart and Emanuel Willard, were out on a spearing expedition, and when about two miles from town, near Geo. V. Byrkit's place, the boat was capsized by drifting under the branches of a tree to which the deceased caught hold of. The other two occupants could swim and with great difficulty got ashore. Albert drifted down a few rods on the bottom of the boat, and halloed to his companions that he was all right. As quickly as possible they made efforts to rescue him by reaching a pole out to the boat, but just as they were in the act, Albert slipped from the boat and sank.

Searching parties were organized this morning and about 11 o'clock the body was discovered by means of fish-hooks arranged on drag lines. It was found about fifteen rods from where he went down. The coroner has been notified and will hold an inquest today.

The deceased was aged about 22 years and was a worthy young man, well liked by all who knew him. His parents and family have the sympathy of all in their sad affliction.
