The relatives and many friends of Mrs. Jacob Eberhart were greatly shocked to learn of that lady's sudden death on Monday morning last. Mrs. Eberhart had been called to Cassopolis, Mich., the week previous by the serious illness of her sister, Mrs. Mary E. Coates, who died on Friday.

The funeral was set for Sunday, and on the morning of that day Mrs. Eberhart was taken severely ill with something like a congestive chill and died the following morning at 10 o'clock. Her son, Henry, and Dr. Butterworth, who had been telegraphed for, did not arrive until after she had passed away. The remains were brought home for interment and the funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Eberhart, whose maiden name was Louisa J. Ferris, was born in Cayuga county, N. Y., Feb. 23d, 1820. She was married June 28th, 1844 to the late Jacob W. Eberhart, whose death preceded hers only a few short months. She was a most estimable Christian woman, whose loss will be sincerely deplored by a large circle of acquaintances. She leaves but one child, C. H. Eberhart, who, since his father's death, had, with his family been living at the old homestead with his mother. The funeral services were held at her late home on Wednesday afternoon, Elder Simpson, of Elkhart, officiating. A large number of sorrowing friends accompanied the remains to their last resting place in the Mishawaka cemetery.
