Robert G. Eberlein

Robert G. Eberlein, 81, formerly of East Broadway, Mishawaka, and currently of Fountainview Place, Mishawaka, passed away at 6:34 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, in Memorial Hospital. Bob was born on Oct. 4, 1919, in Mishawaka to the late George and Florence (Waletzko) Eberlein.

 

Also preceding him in death were a sister, Florence Rospopo and three brothers; Sylvester, Bernard and Rupert (his paternal twin) Eberlein.

 

On April 27, 1946, Robert married Mary K. Paluzzi. She also preceded him in death on March 22, 2000.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Clara Marie Cissna of Mishawaka; two sons; Robert F. (Carol) Eberlein of Granger and Thomas A. (Yolanda) Eberlein of Niles, Mich.; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ermalinda (Lindy) Eberlein of Mishawaka and a brother, Lawrence (Mickey) Eberlein of McAllen, Texas.

 

Bob was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 86th Division, company C, 344 Infantry during the Battle of the Bulge and Philippine conflict. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 161 and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360, and a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. Bob retired from UniRoyal after 37 years of service.

 

Visitation will be on Monday, July 16, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, in St. Monica Church with Fr. Michael Murphy officiating.

 

Entombment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, where a military graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial, Washington, D.C. or to the Donor's choice of charity.
