MISHAWAKA — Charles E. Eby, 88, of Beech Road, died at 3:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind., where he had been a patient for four weeks.

He was born April 10, 1914, in Elkhart County, to Jacob W. and Dora (Geyer) Eby.

 

On June 7, 1936, in Mishawaka, he married Mildred (Barkey) Eby. She survives with a daughter, Mrs. Margaret (Gordon) Yoder of Cookville, Tenn.; three sons, Donald Eby of Centerville, Mich., Frederic (Sandy) Eby of Bremen, Merlin (Kathy) Eby of Mishawaka; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two half brothers, Lowell Eby and Roscoe Eby.

 

Mr. Eby was a farmer, a bus driver for Penn-Harris-Madison Schools, drove for JJR Vans (a handicap van service), South Bend, and was also a milk hauler from 1954 to 1964. He was a member of Tamarack United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, and was a bowler at Osceola Lanes for 40 years.

 

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, in the Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret-Lienhart Funeral Home, Wakarusa, Ind. The procession will meet at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, in the funeral home to go to Olive (West) Cemetery for burial at 2:30 p.m. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday in Tamarack United Methodist Church, Mishawaka. Rev. Jane White-Stevens of Tamarack United Methodist Church will officiate. Memorials may be made to Tamarack United Methodist Church for missions.
