GRANGER - Mary Anne Edmonds, 76, of Granger, IN, passed away at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 20, 2008, in her home surrounded by members of her family. Mary Anne was born on June 21, 1931, in South Bend, IN, to August and Anna Bauer. Mary Anne graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1949 and Saint Joseph's Hospital Nursing School in 1952. She then joined the U.S. Navy in 1953 and served through 1959. Her service ultimately took her to Long Beach, CA, where she met her husband, Gene.

After being married on February 7, 1959, in Holy Cross Church, South Bend, the parish that Mary Anne grew up in, they made their home in Garden Grove, CA, where they were very involved in their parish, St. Columban's, as they raised their family until they retired in 1991. They then returned to the South Bend area and became members of Little Flower Parish. Mary Anne is survived by her best friend and loving husband, Gene Edmonds of Granger; daughters, Anne (David) Miller of Boulder, CO, and Meg (Scott) Loitz of Granger, IN; and two sons, Matt (Sharon) Edmonds of Granger, IN, and Michael (Yesica) Edmonds of Mexico City, Mexico. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, Caitlyn, Corey, Christina, Elizabeth Connor, Christopher, Sarah, Garrett, Catherine, Isabella, Brett, Andrew, Anna, Caroline, Colleen, Karina and Kevin. In addition, she is survived locally by her brothers, Edward (Mako) Bauer and Thomas (Peggy) Bauer. Mary Anne was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James Bauer and Jerome Bauer, both of South Bend; and by her granddaughter, Allison Edmonds of Granger. If Mary Anne could be remembered for one thing, it would be as a servant of the Lord, recognizing the Holy Spirit as her guide in life.

Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM and 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Wednesday, Jan. 23, in the Hickey Funeral Home, 12131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN.
