Calvin Eley, aged 55, of 2315 Prescott avenue, Clay township, died at 4:30 pm Tuesday in St. Joseph hospital after an illness since last January.  He spent most of his life in this community and was employed by the Oliver corporation.  Surviving are two sons, Glen, of South Bend, and Calvin, Jr., of Hammond, Ind., four sisters, Mrs. Mina Wittner, Mrs. Cora Shupert, and Mrs. Hattie Kimble, all of South Bend, and Mrs. Grace Hale, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and three brothers, Lora, Vern, and John, all of South Bend.  Friends may call in the Orvis funeral home Thursday and until funeral services there at 2 pm Friday. Rev. Loren Atwell, pastor of Mishawaka Church of God, will officiate.  Burial will be in Highland cemetery.  He was a member of the South Bend aerie N. 435, Fraternal Order of Eagles.  Source: South Bend Tribune, July 6, 1949.
