George A. Ellsworth

MISHAWAKA - George A. Ellsworth, 82, of Mishawaka, passed away on Jan. 9th in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. On August 31, 1925, in Elkhart, IN, he was born to Dewey and Thelma (Murphy) Ellsworth. George was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alice Scott, Shirley Lane and Barbara Schraw; and seven brothers, Robert, Dewey, Carl, Bill, Richard, Ronald and Lyle "Mickie."

 

On July 11, 1953, in South Bend, he married the love of his life, Mary Richards, and they enjoyed over 54 years of marriage. George is survived by his wife, Mary; three children, Cheryl D. (John) Nitchell, Deborah (Larry) Stebbins, both of Mishawaka, and Donna (Sam) DeVille of Port St. Lucie, FL; two granddaughters, Lorene (Hank) Searfoss and Heather Hoover; three great-grandchildren, Aaliya, Lena and Natalie. Also surviving are a sister, Betty Glaum of Mason, AZ, and two brothers, Jerry (Sandy) Ellsworth of Mishawaka and Jimmy (Margie) Ellsworth of South Bend.

 

George was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a welder for Beck Welding for 20 years before he retired. Even after his retirement he was always fixing something or helping someone out with something. Everyone was a friend and he would always lend a helping hand to a friend in need. He loved working with wood and creating things. George was loved by his family and loved spending time with them and his friends. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and the St. Louis Cardinals and he loved watching NASCAR.

 

Visitation for family and friends to celebrate George's life will be held on Friday, January 11, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 12, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with Bayles Nitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions may be made in memory of George to the American Cancer Society, 601 W.
