Geraldine Englehart

Geraldine Englehart, 69, of Elkhart, formerly of South Bend, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, October 4, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. Geraldine was born on February 2, 1937, in Mishawaka, to Zook and Evelyn A. (Roose) VanCuren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

 

On June 2, 1957, in South Bend, as the former Geraldine VanCuren, she married Kenneth Englehart. Surviving Geraldine are her loving husband of 49 years, Kenneth; a daughter, Sandy (Butch) Freet of Mishawaka; a son, Dan (Crystal) Englehart of Granger; a half sister, Zelma Smith of Marion, IN; and five grandchildren, Kristy (Ryan) Bowers, SallyAnn (Rudy) Yakym III, Christopher, Bryan and Kristen Englehart.

 

Geraldine worked in the Obituary Department of the South Bend Tribune for more than 20 years before she retired in 2000. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 267, White Shrine. She enjoyed knitting, playing BINGO, and playing cards with her grandchildren. Geraldine was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother; she was very involved with her grandchildren's lives and never missed a concert or a sporting event.

 

Family and friends may visit today, October 6, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 7, at 10:30 a.m., with visitation one hour prior in the Osceola Church of the Brethren on Beech Road, Osceola, with Rev. Don Carroll officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.
