SOUTH BEND - Wilbur D. Eshelman, 86,
of 5636 Danbury Drive, died at 1:50 p.m. Saturday in Memorial
Hospital. Mr. Eshelman retired in 1973 from the South Bend
Community School Corp. as principal of German Elementary School
and was formerly a principal in Madison Township and Topeka. He
was born June 9, 1909, in LaGrange County.
On Dec. 11, 1933, in Covington, Ky., he
married Ruth Thrapp. She survives with a daughter, Nancy Lineback
of Lakeville; two grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two
sisters, Dorothy Dankert of Toledo, Ohio, and Marcile Whybrew
of Elkhart. He was a graduate of Western Michigan University and
Indiana University. He was a member of the South Bend, Indiana
and National Association of School Principals and was an honorary
member of Phi Delta Kappa of Grace United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in
Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood Drive. Burial will be
in Southlawn Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made
to the church.
