Joan Falkner

July 3, 1928 -- April 18, 2004

                                       

Joan (Boyer) Falkner, 75, of Franklin Street, Elkhart, Ind., passed away of natural causes Sunday, April 18, in Americare Nursing Center.

Mrs. Falkner was born July 3, 1928, to Harold and Helen (Scheibelhut) Boyer in South Bend, Ind. Joan's parents preceded her in death.

Surviving is her daughter, Suzan Holycross and her husband, Gregg of South Bend; and her son, Thomas Sloma and his wife, Meyong of South Carolina. Also surviving are three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding Joan in death were a son, Steven Sloma, and two brothers, Harold and Richard Boyer.

A memorial service will be held for Joan at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 24, in Americare Nursing Home at 1400 W. Franklin Street, Elkhart.

Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, Ind., is handling arrangements.

Joan worked for many years as a nurse's aide in several local nursing homes in the area throughout her career. She enjoyed watercolors and nature. Helping others was a passion Joan embraced. Joan was also a member of the Gospel Center Missionary Church in South Bend. Her faith was very important, and it showed in the care she gave to the staff and residents at Americare Nursing Home.
