Sister M. Rose Thomas CSC, 82, of St. Mary’s Convent, Notre Dame, died at 12:50 p.m. Friday in the convent, after a long illness. Born May 2, 1902 as Lillian Vincentia Fannan, in Alexandria Va., she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, St. Mary’s on Feb. 10, 1929 coming from Alexandria. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1929 and made her final vows on Aug. 15, 1931. Sister M. Rose attended and was graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, Alexandria, and served as a bookkeeper in her father’s office prior to entering the congregation. Her first assignment was as an office assistant in the business office of Mount Carmel Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, where she served from 1931 to 1948. From 1948 to 1950 she was assigned accountant at Saint Joseph’s Home and School, Washington DC, returning to Mount Carmel Hospital, to serve in the business office from 1950 to 1956.

 

From 1956 to 1962 she was assistant at Saint Angela Hall, Rockville, Md. In 1962 she returned to Mount Carmel Hospital to serve as Sister Visitor to patients, where she remainded until 1984, when she returned to Rosary Hall, St. Mary’s, Notre Dame for less strenuous duty. However she remained active in many interests of the Sisters with whom she resideed. Surviving are a sister, Sister M. Jean Andre, St. Angela Hall, Kensington, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

 

A wake service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday and Mass of the Resurrection will be at 4:45 in the Church of Loretto with internment in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, both at St. Mary’s. Friends may call today and until the time of services in St. Mary’s Convent. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund.
