Michael Paul Farinelli

GRANGER — Michael Paul Farinelli, PhD., 52, of Viola Court, passed away unexpectedly at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Ind. He was an Information Systems Specialist at the Bayer Corporation in Elkhart, Ind., where he worked for twenty years. He was born on May 20, 1948, in New Kensington, Pa., to the late Angelo J.B., and Margaret (Runco) Farinelli, who survives in Arnold, Pa. He is also survived by his wife, Cynthia Dineen Farinelli, and son, Andrew J. Farinelli of Granger.

 

Surviving in addition to his wife, son and mother is his sister, Gaeten F. Johnston of Arnold; and two brothers, Daniel C. Farinelli of New Kensington and Stephen E. Farinelli, PhD., of New York, N.Y.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today, Dec. 19, in the Little Flower Catholic Church, South Bend, with Rev. Donald Guertin, C.S.C., celebrating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends called on Monday from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the McGann Funeral Homes, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, South Bend, where there was a parish wake service at 7:30 p.m. Contributions may be made in memory of Michael to Mt. St. Peter School, 100 Freeport Road, New Kensington, PA 15068.

 

Dr. Farinelli did his undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University and completed his doctorate in biochemistry at Ohio State University in 1979. He was a member of Little Flower Parish. Mike was an avid reader and was a lover of science fiction. An enthusiastic sports fan, he followed Penn State football and Pittsburgh sports teams.
