Thelma Farkas

Thelma Farkas, 89, residing at 52654 N. Ironwood Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6:25 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, in the Regency Place Nursing Home.

Mrs. Farkas was born on Oct. 3, 1909, in South Bend, to the late Frank and Vertia Rickey Rynearson, and remained a lifelong resident of this community. On June 21, 1930, in Michigan City, Ind., as Thelma Rynearson, she married Joseph Farkas, who passed away on Aug. 28, 1966. She was also preceded in death by a son, James, and by three grandchildren and four brothers.

Mrs. Farkas is survived by three daughters, Doris Youngs of Lakeville, Ind., and Beverly Kovacs and Vicki Acito, both of South Bend; two sons, Joseph Farkas of South Bend and Richard Farkas of Davenport, Fla.; ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and by five sisters, Marie DeBoever of South Bend, Betty Hermann of Mission, Texas, Gladys Myers of Edwardsburg, Mich., Marvel Crill of Phoenix, Ariz., and Garnet Utley of Crown Point, Ind.

Mrs. Farkas was a former employee for 11 years with Rice's Laundry & Dry Cleaning Service in South Bend.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6, in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Rev. Steve Nani, C.S.C., of Hospice will officiate. Burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery.

Friends and family may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. today, and from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday in the Palmer Funeral Home.
