The Rev. Arnold A. Fell, CSC, 79, died at Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, Indiana, on Tuesday, June 18, 1996. Father Fell was born in North Tonawanda, New York, the son of Bertha and Thomas Fell. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and St. Mary's High School in Niagara Falls, New York. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1939. Father Fell studied theology at the Foreign Mission Seminary in Washington, D.C. from 1939 until 1943.

 

Father Fell entered the novitiate at Rolling Prairie, Ind., on Aug. 15, 1935 where he professed his vows one year later. He made his perpetual profession on June 13, 1941. On June 24, 1943, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Ind., he was ordained a priest. Father Fell was serving as Associate Director of Holy Cross Mission Center at the time of his death. From 1943, until the time of his death, Father Fell served the foreign missions. He served as Assistant Superior of the Foreign Mission Seminary from 1946-49. From 1949-1959, Father Fell was Assistant Director of the Foreign Mission Society. From 1959-1986, Father Fell was Director of the Foreign Mission Society. From 1986 until the present he was Associate Director of the Holy Cross Mission Center.

Father Fell is survived by his sister, Mrs. Winifred Donley and three nieces, Shauna Garay, Patrice Donley, Therese Farnell, and a nephew, Thomas Donley.

 

A Wake Service will be celebrated on Thursday, June 20, 1996, in the chapel of Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, Ind., at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. at Moreau Seminary. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Ind., on Friday, June 21, 1996 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery at Notre Dame. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
