NILES - Mary Angeline (Barbaro) Ferraro, 97, died of natural causes on Tuesday, December 16, in her home. Throughout her life, Mary was devoted to her family, friends and church. Born in Plati, Italy, on July 24, 1911, she immigrated to the United States via Ellis Island in 1920, and had lived with her family in Indianapolis where she worked as a seamstress. After moving with her family to Niles, Michigan, she married Joseph Ferraro in 1929, and lived in both Mishawaka and South Bend during their 55 years of marriage. While raising her family, Mary worked at Ball Band where she was employed until her retirement. She was also active in the D'Loretta Club and in her parish life at St. Matthew Cathedral and St. Monica Church. Mary always welcomed her friends and large extended family in her home that was a center of life and laughter. With its carefully maintained lawn and inviting aromas, her house was the daily and holiday gathering place for four generations of the Barbaro-Ferraro family. She is survived by her son, Pat (Barbara); two daughters, Teresa Pilarski and Rose Sullivan (Edward); a daughter-in-law, Rosetta Ferraro; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion D'Onofrio; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Barbaro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; son, Rocky; granddaughter, Maryann; son-in-law, Edward Pilarski; parents, Rocco and Rose; brothers, Philip and Frank; and by a sister, Elizabeth.

Visitation is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, December 21, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 North Main Street, Mishawaka, and from 9 to 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, in St. Monica Church, 222 West Mishawaka Avenue. A Rosary service will be held during the visitation on Sunday at 4:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 22, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Monica Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Monica Church or Hospice at Home, Inc.
