Donald E. Ferro

Donald E. "Gene" Ferro, 73, of South Bend, IN, passed away peacefully at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2002.

 

Mr. Ferro was born on July 22, 1928, in South Bend, IN, to the late Dominick A. and Eudora E. (Brugh) Ferro.

 

On September 30, 1950, in South Bend, IN, he married Betty A. Palko, who survives.

 

Also surviving are his children, James E. (Jeanne) Ferro of Ada, Michigan, Judy A. (John) Szucs of South Bend, Indiana, Nancy J. (Matthew) Baker of Valparaiso, Indiana, John A. (Lori) Ferro of Niles, Michigan; and twelve grandchildren, Brian Ferro of Ada, Michigan, John, Michael, Jeffrey and Daniel Szucs, all of South Bend, Indiana, Andrew, Madeline and Samuel Baker, all of Valparaiso, Indiana, Lindsay, Jessica, Emily and Dominick Ferro, all of Niles, Michigan.

 

He retired from Allied Automotive in June 1986 as General Sales Manager, Medium/Heavy Truck Components after 36 years of service. He was a 1950 graduate of Purdue University, receiving a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Ferro was a member of Christ the King Parish, a past President of the Bendix Senior Management Club, a member of Turners of Michiana, and an avid bowler. He had a great love for life that he shared with his family and friends, and he will be greatly missed.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2002, in Christ the King Catholic Church.

 

Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Vigil will be held at 5:30 p.m.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, or to the Christ the King Catholic Church Building Fund.
