James Feuer

WEST LAFAYETTE - James Neil Feuer, 56, of West Lafayette, died at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at his residence, due to complications from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Born April 27, 1954, in South Bend, Ind., he was the son of Alvin B. Feuer of Roanoke, Va., and Gloria Stricklin of Winter Haven, Fla., who survive. He was a 1972 graduate of Penn High School in Mishawaka and was a member of the National Honor Society from 1969 to 1972. During his junior year, he won an American Field Service Scholarship to study for a year in Victoria, Australia. He graduated magna cum laude in psychology from Duke University in 1976, where he did research with Dr. William Bevan, past president of the American Psychological Association. Two of their experiments were published in psychology journals. He also served as a staff crisis intervention counselor while at Duke. After graduation, he returned to Indiana and became co-owner of Twin City News Agency, where he managed Book World, the City Newsstand and Books Brothers. He also continued as a crisis intervention counselor for the Crisis Center in Lafayette. He was a member of the American Booksellers Association from 1976 to 2009. He wrote a song called "Through Each Other's Eyes," which was sold to country music artist Bobby G. Rice, and had recently finished a screenplay entitled "A Quiet Place in Time." On Feb. 13, 2010, he was honored by State Representative Sheila Klinker and Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski for his contributions to the Lafayette community. He was also honored by the Almost Home Humane Society for his support. Surviving with his parents are a brother, Robert A. Feuer (wife: Rhonda) of Lafayette; and a sister, Ellen S. Greenberg (husband: Ben) of Baltimore. Also surviving are nieces, Steffanie Housman (husband: Joel), Kayla Feuer, Heather Greenberg and Robyn Greenberg; and his beloved rescue cats, Zoe and Ivy. Visitation 5-8 p.m. today, May 13, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, 400 Twyckenham Blvd. Service 1 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2010, at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel, Chaplain Scott Ellison officiating.
