Evelyn Marie Cressy Firth, 75, of Woodcliff Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, after an extended illness. She was born in South Bend on Sept. 20, 1921, to Sidney and Marie Cressy. Evelyn graduated from Riley High School in 1939.

 

On Sept. 17, 1945, she married Robert J. Firth in Sacred Heart Church. Together they raised their family in Westbury, N.Y., until returning to South Bend in 1974. Evelyn was a member of Sacred Heart Parish. She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Robert; two daughters, Patricia F. Currey of Jupiter, Fla., and Elizabeth F. Devins of Beecher, Ill; two sons, Robert J. Firth of Granger, Ind., and John C. Firth of Mishawaka, Ind.; eight grandchildren, Lisa and Jo Ann Firth, David Currey, John Devins, John, Margaret, Catherine and James Firth; two brothers, George Cressy of Mishawaka and Clifford Cressy of Muenster, Ind.; and two sisters, Mary Louise Miller of South Bend and Mildred Hill of Mishawaka. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, and by a brother, James.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the Notre Dame campus. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 919 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN.
