SOUTH BEND - Barbara I. Firtl, 82, of Palisades Avenue, died at 12:25 p.m. Saturday in Regency Place Nursing Home of an illness. Mrs. Firtl was employed by the former Wilson Brothers Company and Atlas Tool. She was born Sept. 18, 1911, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident.

On Dec. 24, 1943, in Leesburg, Miss., as Barbara Meszaros, she married Matthew Firtl. He survives with a sister, Roselle Cunningham of Ohio; and two brothers, Emery Meszaros of Hudson Lake and Nandor Meszaros of Arcadia, Fla. She was a member of the South Bend Bowling Hall of Fame.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will take place. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Zahoran Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Arthritis Foundation or American Heart Association.
