Dec. 27, 2009
GRANGER - Max M. Fischer, 83, of Granger, IN, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Sunday, December 27, 2009, after his battle with lung cancer. He was born in Tulsa, OK, son of John and Nora Fischer, and was preceded in death by a brother, John Fischer, and sister, Geneva Mueller, with a surviving brother, Robert Fischer of Hammond, IN. He is survived by wife, Ann of Granger, IN; son, Terry Fischer (Debbie) of Nappanee, IN; daughter, Pam Fischer of Indianpaolis, IN; grandson, Matt Fischer (Jenni) of Las Vegas, NV; granddaughter, Katie Fischer of Indianapolis; granddaughter, Sarah Tubbs (Clayton) of Beaufort, SC; and great-granddaughter, Lilly Ann of Beaufort, SC. Max was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II. He attended Indiana University where he earned a degree in business. Max was particularly proud of his association with his Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers. These men gathered once a year every year for 60 years, and Max was humbled to have played a role in making those reunions happen. In 1962, Max and his longtime friend, Eugene Thompson, started South Bend Drafting Supply Company until they retired in 1988. Ironically, Max and Eugene Thompson died just four days apart. Max was an avid golfer. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010, in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Funeral services will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m. today, December 29, 2009, and from 9 to 11 prior to the memorial services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010. Max's family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Rudolph Navari and his entire staff for providing such excellent care for him during his extended battle with lung cancer. In Max's honor, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.
