Sister Mary Cecile Fitzgerald CSC

Sister Mary Cecile CSC, 92, of St. Mary’s Convent, died there Saturday evening. She was born Mary Margaret Fitzgerald on April 8, 1885 in Stratford, Ontario, and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s, on Sept. 8, 1911, after coming from Stratford. She made her profession of vows on Dec. 10, 1913, and spent her entire community life on St. Mary’s campus teaching music and serving as organist in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto. She received her doctorate from Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in 1924, and completed post-doctorial studies at Gregorian Institute of America. She is survived by a cousin, Sister Margaret Andre CSC of South Bend.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call in the convent parlors where a wake will be at 7 p.m. today.
