SOUTH BEND - Services for John Lawrence Flaherty, 81, of Phoenix, formerly of South Bend, who died Nov. 22 in his home, were Nov. 26 in Lundberg Mortuary White Rose Chapel, Glendale, Ariz. Graveside services and burial were in Resthaven Park Cemetery, Glendale. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 2601 E. Thomas Road, Phoenix, AZ 85016.
Mr. Flaherty retired in 1963 as a lieutenant colonel in the Army. He was born Oct. 9, 1914, in Michigan City and lived in South Bend until 1932. He is survived by his wife, Ida E. (Moore) Flaherty of Phoenix; a daughter, Joann Wolverton of Longboat Key, Fla.; four sons, Russell S. of Phoenix, James E. of Garland, Texas, John P. of Houston, and Robert D. of Del Rio, Texas; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William of Casselberry, Fla., and Joseph of Avon Park, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II.
