Emma E. Flatt

Feb. 1, 1914 - Sept. 2, 2002

Emma E. Flatt, 88, of Ridgedale Road, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Milburn Blvd., Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Monday, Sept. 2, in the Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend.

Emma was born on Feb. 1, 1914, in Carmi, Ill., as the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine (Story) Fulkerson. Emma was preceded in death by one daughter, Sally Robertson on July 1, 2001; two sisters, Helen Courtaway and Winona Bondurant; and by a brother, Joseph Fulkerson. On Feb. 8, 1939, in Enid, Okla., Emma married Ross A. Flatt Jr., who also preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1988, after 49 years of marriage.

Mrs. Flatt is survived by two sons, Thomas (Nancy) Flatt of Mishawaka and Robert A. (Terri) Flatt of South Bend; one daughter, Jo Ann Poole of Smyrna, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, William, Ronald, James and Steven Flatt, Brian and Bradley Albertson, Lisa and Mark Flatt, and Jared Robertson; and by 10 great-grandchildren;

Emma was employed by the J.C. Penny Company in South Bend for 25 years before retiring in 1979. Mrs. Flatt was a member of the Eastern Star/Rose Croix.

Emma enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great- children, and had a great sense of humor. She will be truly missed by her loving family.

Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. today, Sept. 4, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Hahn Funeral Home. Rev. Wayne Brock will be officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
