John E. Fleischman

John E. Fleischman, 74, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2001, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Mr. Fleischman was born on July 10, 1926, in South Bend, IN, to the late John B. and Margaret A. (Stoeckinger) Fleischman, and was a lifelong resident. He retired in 1991 from Huckins Tool and Die.

On August 28, 1948, in Augsburg, Germany, he married Erna Nicolay, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jeffery J. (Patty Szymanowski) Fleischman of Granger, IN, Gregory J. (Kathryn Ruddy) Fleischman of Brookfield, IL; five granddaughters, Erica, Michelle, Megan, Amanda, Elise Fleischman; and two step-grandsons, John and Sean Goes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Mr. Fleischman was a W.W.II Army Veteran. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, German Club, D.A.N.K. Club, National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited, and Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #58. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
