John P. Floridia

John P. Floridia, 77, of East Broadway, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 4:58 a.m. Thursday in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, following an illness. He was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., to Paul and Margaret (Bonocontro) Floridia. His parents preceded him in death along with a son, Vincent Floridia, who died March 5, 1989, and a brother, Frank Floridia, who died April 16, 1998.

 

John married the former Mary Scarfo in Mishawaka on Nov. 30,1946. She survives, along with a son, Paul "Butch" (Cindy) Floridia of Granger, Ind.; a niece, Margaret (Kenneth) Coe of Valparaiso, Ind.; a great nephew, Tom Coe of LaPorte, Ind.; a great niece, Julie Coe of Chicago; and a sister-in-law, Catherine Floridia.

 

Mr. Floridia was a fireman for 20 years, working for the City of Mishawaka. He retired in 1972. After retirement from the fire department, he worked for the Mishawaka Parks Department. He was a member of the DiLoreto Club and DeAmicis Club of Mishawaka, and also was a past member of the Elks. He graduated from Washington High School. He was honorably discharged from the United States Navy in 1945 after serving in both the European and Pacific Theaters of World War II. Mr. Floridia will be missed by his family and friends. He had a great personality, and was liked by all that knew him.

 

Funeral services for Mr. Floridia will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Monica Catholic Church, Mishawaka. Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. A wake service will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow the services at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
