Gizella Fokey

Aug. 8,1903 -April 21,1997

Gizella Fokey, 93 years old, who resided on M-62 South of Edwardsburg and formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away Monday at Riveridge Manor of Niles, Mich., after an extended illness.

Mrs. Fokey was born Aug. 8, 1903, in Kupuvar, Hungary, and had lived in South Bend until 1951, when she and her husband moved to Edwardsburg. She was the daughter of the late Paul Horvath and Veronica Bognar Horvath. She was a seamstress, having worked for the former Lee Overall factory and Bike-Webb, both of South Bend. She was known for her roses about her home and having made many Afghans at her home, for sale to the public.

Mrs. Fokey was married as Gizella Horvath on Aug. 11, 1923, in South Bend, to James Peter Fokey, who died Aug. 4, 1960. Two sons, James J. Fokey and Joseph P. Fokey, also preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Ella) Riffel and Mrs. Thomas (Mary Ann) Frisz, both of South Bend; 14 grandchildren, James Fokey, Sandy VanNimwegen, Barb McKown, Mark Fokey, Candy King, Shirley Jones, Kathy Fokey, Becky Johnson, Mike Riffel, Judy Gates, Christine Elliott, Tom Frisz, Jeanne Kaniewski and Don Frisz; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren .

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (Indiana time) Thursday in the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home in Edwardsburg. At 12:45 p.m., (Indiana time) a funeral procession will leave the funeral home for graveside services at 1 p.m. (Indiana time) in the Chapel of St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Burial will follow in the family lot at the cemetery.
