Brother Bonaventure Foley CSC, 82, died at 2:30 a.m. today in Dujarie House, Holy Cross Brothers Center, after an illness. He was born Aug. 26, 1904 in Janesville, Minn. Surviving are two sisters, Mary O’Connel of Waverly, Minn., and Sister Sheila OSF, of Rochester, Minn.; and a brother, Joseph of St. Paul.

 

Services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Chapel at the Brothers Center and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at the Brothers Center. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Brothers Center, where a wake will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.

 

Brother Foley became a novice July 20, 1922 and professed his vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross on July 21, 1923. He served as a teacher at Holy Cross Brothers’ high schools in New Orleans and Indianapolis and held the administrative position of superior at Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Ind., Coyle High School, Traunton, Mass.; Sacred Heart Juniorate, Watertown, Wis.; Vincent Hall, Austin, Texas; and Dujarie Scholasticate, Notre Dame. In 1950 he was appointed secretary of the Provincial Council at Notre Dame and in 1956 was elected assistant provincial superior of the Midwest Province of Brothers. In 1962 he became a member of the General Council of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Rome. From 1968 to 1976 he was superior of Holy Cross Brothers Center.
