Gilford M. Funston

Mishawaka - Services for Gilford M. Funston, 82, of 422 N. Logan St., who died about 8:35 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Hospital after an illness, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home.

 

Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 7 to 9 Friday in the funeral home.

 

Mr. Funston was born Nov. 26, 1902, in South Bend, and was a lifetime resident of the area. He was employed as a gage inspector for the Bendix Corp., retiring in 1966.

 

On April 15, 1942, in South Bend, he married Clara DeCocker. She survives along with a daughter, Doris M. Boone of San Diego, Calif; two sons, Gilford M. Jr. of Pacific Grove Calif., and John T. of South Bend; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mildred Staples of San Mateo, Calif. and Geraldine Johnson of Orlando, Fla.

 

He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Bendix Retirees Club and Local 9 of the United Auto Workers.
