Eugene C. Futter

Eugene C. Futter, 74, co-owner of Futter’s Shoe Store for 51 years and a member of the First National Bank of Mishawaka board of directors, died at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph’s Hospital, South Bend, after a sudden illness.

He lived at 302 S. Coquillard Dr., South Bend.  Born in Mishawaka on March 25, 1900, he lived in the South Bend-Mishawaka area all his life.  His wife, the former Martha Singler, died in 1968.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Donald Haney of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., and Mrs. William Thirion of Indianapolis; a brother, Clarence Futter of South Bend, co-owner of the shoe store, and eight grandchildren.

Futter was a member of the Indiana Club and St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, both of South Bend.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Hickey Funeral Home, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in St. Anthony’s Church, with Rev. Robert Yast, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.

The family requests, that memorial contributions be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society or the building fund of St. Joseph’s Hospital, South Bend.
