Richard E. Futter

Richard E. Futter, 58, of 54570 Whispering Oak Drive, died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph’s Medical Center, South Bend, after a six-month illness.  He was born on Nov. 5, 1923, in Mishawaka, and had lived here all his life.  He was part owner of the Neff Engineering Co., Inc., South Bend.  On June 18, 1950, in Mishawaka, he married Marian F. Harrold, who survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Marcia A. Futter of Roselle, N.J., Lynne F. Futter of Minneapolis, Minn., and Lisa A. Futter, at home; two sons, Richard E. Jr. of Appleton, Wis., and Mark E., at home; a sister, Mrs. Walter (Amy) Yendes of South Bend, and his mother, Mrs. Leo (Ruth) Futterknecht of South Bend.  Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today and 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist Church, Rev. P.B. Smith, pastor, and Rev. Steve Beutler, associate pastor, will officiate, and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.  Futter was a trustee of the First United Methodist Church and a member of Masonic Lodge 130, F&AM; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, the South Bend Elks, and the Engineers Club of St. Joseph Valley.  Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Joseph County Cancer Society.
