Anne B. Ganser

Anne B. Ganser, 88, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. She was born in South Bend, Ind., to Peter and Elizabeth (Desamits) Nemeth. Anne grew up in South Bend, Ind., and while she was a teenager her father died. Her mother later married John Kaman. Anne worked at Bendix where she was active with the Bendix Girls Club (YWCA) and served as president, vice president, news letter reporter and recording secretary. She was the Bendix delegate to the 15th annual YWCA National Convention in New York City. Other YWCA activities included recreation and social chairwoman of the Business Girls Council and camp committee leader of Nuner Girls Reserves. While working at Bendix,

 

Anne met Vern A. Ganser and on Oct. 1, 1938, they were united in marriage. The couple settled in Mishawaka and, after starting a family, Anne was a homemaker. While their two daughters were growing up, she was active at St. Joseph Catholic Grade School where they attended. For many years Anne was in charge of the Fall Festival, was an active member of the PTA and coached volleyball. She helped start Inter-City Catholic Volleyball and served as the director from 1949-1953. Anne later was a fourth grade teacher at both St. Joseph and Queen of Peace schools. She supervised large groups of children on trips aboard the South Shore into Chicago, Ill., to see theatre productions. Anne was director over counselors at Our Sunday Visitor Camp and Our Lady of the Lake Seminary on Lake Wawasee and served as diocesan youth chairwoman of the South Bend Deanery of the National Council of Catholic Women. Anne was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka. She enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Vern in 1990; and by a brother, Peter J. Nemeth. Her family includes her two daughters, Susan L. Ganser of Mishawaka and Jociel (Theodore Jr.) A. Nowacki of Fishers Ind.; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Timothy and Matthew.

 

Friends may visit with Anne's family from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. Third St., Mishawaka, where the Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Fr. Robert Yast officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Mishawaka. Donations in Anne's memory may be made to Gibault School for Boys, P.O. Box 2316, Terre Haute, IN 47802. Anne's inspirational gift of raising the spirits of those around her will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.
