Arlene Gardner

SOUTH BEND - Arlene Gardner, 66, of South Bend, IN, went to be with the Lord and Savior at 8:28 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in her home, following an illness. She was born on February 7, 1942, to the late Porter Lee and Arvie Marie (Martin) Scott in Washington County, OK, and had lived in South Bend, IN since 1985. Along with her parents, one son-in-law, Larry Vaughn; one sister, Mildred Louise Wilson; and one brother, Johnny Lee Scott also preceded her in death. Mrs. Gardner was employed as a Cook for both Alpha Phi and Chi Omega Sororities at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. On September 16, 1960, as Arlene Scott, she married Guy E. Gardner Jr. in Bartlesville, OK. She is survived by her loving husband, Guy E. Gardner Jr. of South Bend, IN; one daughter, Penny A. (Ken) Vaughn-Chapo of New Carlisle, IN; one son, Scott E. (Karen) Gardner of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Justin and Kaylee Vaughn; Kelleigh and Bryar Gardner; Josh (Tia) Chapo; Zach and Steve Chapo; one great-granddaughter, Aubrey Chapo; one sister, Wilma Jones of Tugaski, Canada; and one brother, Donald (Elaine) Scott of Bartlesville, OK. Arlene was an avid square dancer; talented oil painter; and a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2008, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 6, 2008, in Kaniewski Funeral Home, with Pastor Bryan Donaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery in New Carlisle, IN.
