Marilyn "June" Gardner, 78, of East Murray, South Bend, passed away Friday, October 21, 2005 in Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 19, 1927 in Bertrand, Michigan, to the late Arthur and Nettie (Ortman) Mead.

 

On December 28, 1946 in South Bend, she married Arnold Gardner, who survives. Along with her loving husband, Arnold, of 58 years, she is survived by three daughters, Maureen (Larry) Sowell of Mishawaka, Colleen (Tom) Piech of South Bend and Kathy (Randy) Jackson of South Bend; one son, Kenny Gardner of Knoxville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Shannon (Brad) Rutkowski of Granger, Sean (Lori) Sowell of Granger, Shane (Jenny) Sowell of Canoaga Park, Calif., Eric Piech of the U.S. Navy serving in Okinawa, Scott Piech of South Bend and Garrett Jackson of South Bend; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Rutkowski, Bailey Rutkowski and Tristan Sowell; one sister, Darlene (Tony Mohacsek of South Bend; and five brothers, Richard (Joyce Mead of south Bend, Harold Mead of North Liberty, Ind., Jack (Janet) Mead of Granger, Donald Mead of Niles, Mich. and Dennis Mead of South Bend. June was a member of Community Congregational Church.

 

Friends may visit with the family, TODAY, Monday, October 24, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 25 at noon. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, June's family requests that in loving memory of her, contributions be made to either the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637 or to the donor's choice.
