Beloved husband, father, and a good man, Roy M. "Bud" Garner, 79, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 7:17 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center. Mr. Garner was born on Feb. 19, 1922, to the late Roy G. and Henrietta (Coil) Garner in South Bend. He was formerly employed as a foreman for 32 years with Drewrys Limited Brewery where he began working at the age of 19. When Drewrys closed in the early 1970s, he went to work as an inventory specialist for nine years with RACO.

On Oct. 9, 1953, in the Portage Chapel, South Bend, he married Aline M. Bernas, who survives. The couple had just celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on Oct. 9, 2001. He is also survived by his two daughters, Ginny Garner and Wendy Garner, both of South Bend; and by his sister, Barbara Klaus of Florida. Mr. Garner was a member of the Irish Over Seas Club, and the National Rifle Association. He attended Wilson High School in South Bend where he excelled in math and played basketball, as he was always the tallest one in his class. During retirement Bud enjoyed traveling with his family to places like South Dakota, Colorado, and Walt Disney World. He was an avid reader and a great resource for useless information. Bud enjoyed cooking for his family and was quite the handyman. In the early 1950s, he designed and built his own home with his bride. He was an accomplished wood worker and furniture refinisher- Bud could fix anything! His absence will forever be felt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. today, November 5, 2001 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Friends called from 2 until 8 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home.
