SOUTH BEND - Jane A. Douglas Gary, residing in South Bend, passed away peacefully at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family. She was 68 years old. Jane was born April 20, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of Franklin Burnell and Ruth H. (Joseph) Douglas. She has lived in the Michiana area since 1956 coming from Michigan. She was employed as a Nurse at Southfield Village Retirement Community. Prior to that, she worked for 28 years at Ironwood Health & Rehabilitation Center, for Dr. Terry Stoller, and at Memorial Hospital. She was very active and served in many positions at St. Paul's Memorial United Methodist and Central United Methodist and most recently at Grace United Methodist Churches. She was a volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association, board member for the Guardian Advocate Board at Real Services, and was a member of the Infection Control Board of St. Joseph County. She attended Ivy Tech and Indiana University at South Bend. Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, and wonderful friend to everyone she met. She is survived by her daughter, Lou Anne (Matt) Wilson of South Bend, two sons, Donald (Laurie) Wilson of Canyon Lake, CA, and Richard Gary of Ft. Collins, CO, and five grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsay and Brendan Wilson, and Shannon and Melissa Gary. She is also survived by three brothers James (Elaine) Douglas of Belle Vista, AR, John (Linda) Douglas of Dallas, TX, and Dale Douglas of Indianapolis, IN. Services celebrating the life of Jane Gary will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 20, at Grace United Methodist Church, 3012 South Twyckenham Drive, South Bend. Dr. David Schrader, and Rev. Lauren Hall will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services Sunday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy on behalf of Jane Gary may be offered to The Mission Children of Abraham, c/o Grace United Methodist Church. Arrangements for the Gary Family are being made by the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend.
