Barbara Ann Gassensmith

SOUTH BEND – Services for Barbara Ann Gassensmith, 54, of 938 Riverside Drive, who died at 1:50 Saturday in Memorial Hospital after an illness of seven months, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Welscheimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call until 4 and 7 to 0 p.m. today and before services Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Cancer Society.

 

Mrs. Gassensmith had been employed for more than 25 years, by the South Bend Community School Corp., as an administrative assistant in the Personnel Department. She was born Aug. 24, 1933, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On Sept. 4, 1957, in South Bend, as Barbara Turk, she married Norbert J. “Skip” Gassensmith, who survives. Also surviving are a foster son, David Kelleher of Indianapolis; two brothers, Richard and Robert Turk, both of South Bend, and her mother, Gladys Turk of South Bend. Mrs. Gassensmith was a member of First Baptist Church, Junior League, Service Guild and Kappa Kappa Gamma. She was past president of the Press Club Auxiliary and was a graduate of the University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla.
