Raymond Joseph Gassensmith

Raymond Joseph Gassensmith, 81, of 628 Western Avenue, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday in the Carlyle Nursing Home after an illness of two years. He was a former employee of the City Water Works. Born Dec. 8, 1888 in Odell, Ill., he resided in South Bend since 1921 after coming from Odell.

 

On June 2, 1923, in South Bend, he married Edna. M. Neddo, who survives. Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Frances Reinert of Munster, Ind., Mrs. Marion Sharpe of Granger, Mrs. Maryellen Laurita of Mishawaka, Mrs. Norberta Cheley of South Bend and Mrs. Sally Zirille of Mishawaka; 24 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Cyril of South Bend, Clarence of Odell and Edward of Joliet, Ill. and four sisters, Mrs. Florence Murphy of Jerseyville, Ill., Mrs. Blanch Pellouchovo of Joliet. Sister Louis Bertrand and Sister M. Fredrick, both of Illinois.

 

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today in the Welscheimer Funeral Home. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Rev. Joseph Murphy, CSC, nephew of Mr. Gassensmith, officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.
