James Leo Gerstbauer

Mishawaka – A lifetime resident, James L. Gerstbauer, 76, of 16650 Ireland Rd., Penn Twp., died at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend. He had been ill for the past three weeks.

 

Mr. Gerstbauer was born in Mishawaka, and on Jan. 21, 1923 he married Arnestine Myers. She died Nov. 22, 1954.

 

Mr. Gerstbauer was an active farmer until his illness three weeks ago. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and a charter member of the Farm Bureau in which he held membership for 30 years. He was also a past president of the board of directors of the Mishawaka Farmer’s Dairy.

 

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs Doris Towner, of South Bend and a son Bernard Gerstbauer, of that city and 10 grandchildren. Another son, James Gerstbauer died in January of this year.

 

Friends may call in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Funeral services for James L. Gerstbauer, 76, of 16650 Ireland Rd., Penn Twp., who died Thursday in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend, will be held at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rt. Rev. Msgr. Curt A. Suelzer, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

 

The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers will be Fabian, Joseph, Richard and Albert Gerstbauer, Ernest Wilhelm and Clarence Myers.
