SOUTH BEND - Jerry L. Gieracz, 78, of
20140 W. Oakdale Ave., died at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph's
Medical Center of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Gieracz retired
from St. Joseph's Mother House as a caretaker. He was born May
16, 1916, in Poland, and came to the United States in 1949,
coming from Germany.
In 1946, in Germany, he married Pauline Atamanuk.
She survives with a daughter, Mary Ann Jackson of Niles; a
son, George of Mishawaka; three grandchildren; three sisters,
Danuta Pomikowska and Helena Niedziela, both of
Poland, and Sofia Kuta of South Bend; and a brother, Jerry
of Poland. A son, Edward, preceded him in death. He was a member
of Christ the King Catholic Church, Polish-American Congress and
a Polish Army veteran of World War II.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Chapel
Hill Funeral Home, Osceola. Entombment will be in Chapel Hill
Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m.
Thursday in the funeral home.
