Sister M. Paulina Gillis CSC, 87, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died there at 12:01 a.m. today. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on June 6, 1932, coming from Salt Lake City. She was received as a novice Jan. 6, 1933 and professed her vows Jan. 6, 1935. She was born Sept. 16, 1899 in Colorado Springs, Colo. as Anna Pauline Gillis. She is survived by a brother, Raymond Gillis of Rockville, Utah.

 

She taught in elementary schools for several years before entering the congregation. Her first assignment Bishop Noll High School in Hammond from 1935-1937. She later taught in schools conducted by the Sisters of Holy Cross in California, Idaho, Utah and Washington from 1937 to 1970 and retired to St. Catherine’s Convent in Ventura, Calif. from 1970 to 1985, when she moved to St. Mary’s.

 

Services will be at 4:45 p.m. Friday in Our Lady of Loretto Church, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s. Friends may call Thursday and Friday, until services in St. Mary’s Convent, where a wake will be at 7 p.m. Thursday.
