Roger D. Gill

OSCEOLA - Roger D. Gill, 85, passed away in the Valley View Health Care Center, Elkhart. Roger was born in St. Joseph County on June 12, 1922, as the son of Charles M. and Emma Mae (Rogers) Gill. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Madelyn Russ and Carolyn Wirt, and a brother, Lewis Gill.

On September 24, 1949, in Mishawaka, he married the former Ruth Teegarden. Surviving are his loving wife, Ruth; two daughters, Jean (Douglas) Stanford of Crown Point, IN, and Cynthia (Joe) Vandervlugt of Osceola; two sons, Stephen (Jan) Gill of Mishawaka and Brent (Marty) Gill of Elkhart; seven grandchildren, Steve (Rhonda) Gill of Edwardsburg, MI, Susan (Zachary) Vandervlugt-White of St. Joseph, MI, Jody (Jason) Minne of Mishawaka, Corrie Vandervlugt of Tucson, AZ, James Stanford of Crown Point, IN, Allison Gill of Elkhart and Zachary Gill of Elkhart; a great-grandchild, Brody Minne; and a sister, Betty Kolanowski of Greencastle, IN. Roger was a lifetime area resident. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during WW II. He was a union electrician with IBEW #153, a member of Osceola United Methodist Church, charter member of Masonic Lodge #742, Osceola Scottish Rite, and was a charter member of the Osceola Fire Department where he served as both chief and assistant chief.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 9th, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 10th, in the funeral home, with Rev. Jeffrey Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
