Frances M. Gilmer

SOUTH BEND - Frances M. Gilmer, 70, of Johnson Road, died at 7:52 p.m. Friday in Michiana Community Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Gilmer retired in 1991 as chief deputy assessor for Centre Township after 35 years. She was born April 4, 1923, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident.

 

On June 16, 1945, in South Bend, she married Roy R. Gilmer. He died Nov. 19, 1987. She is survived by a daughter, Martha Lou Gilmer of South Bend; two grandchildren, Rick Gilmer and Jennifer Gilmer, both of South Bend; and brother, John W. Miller of South Bend. A daughter, Patricia Ellen Gilmer, died Nov. 2, 1950, and a son, Roy R. Jr., died March 24, 1989.

 

She was a former department commander and member of Disabled American Veterans Unit 6 and served as national executive committeewoman of the 7th District, and was a member of St. Joseph County Farm Bureau, St. Joseph County 4-H Booster Club, St. Joseph County Republican Party, and was a former member of Indiana Public Employee Association.

 

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Southlawn United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in Hanley & Sons Funeral Home and one hour before services on Wednesday in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to D.A.V.
