Anthony A. Gish

SOUTH BEND - Anthony A. "Tony" Gish, 68, of South Bend, passed away at 5:05 p.m. Friday, August 29th, in his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Gish was born on July 1, 1940, in South Bend, and had resided in the South Bend area his lifetime. On April 9, 1994, in South Bend, he married the former Diana K. Feirick, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kim S. (Mitch) Thompson of Fishers, IN, and Sheila M. Deal of South Bend; two sons, Anthony D. (Taraleigh) Gish of South Bend and Steven B. (Sherry) Deal of Mishawaka, IN; six loving grandchildren, Ashley Gage, Chase Thompson, Tim Deal, Gina Deal, Riley Thompson and Joe Deal, all whom he loved and cherished. Tony retired from the South Bend Police Department in 1987. He achieved the rank of captain on the midnight shift. After his retirement he was hired by the police department as a civilian working in the armory, retiring in 2002. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family as they did him. He will be sadly missed by a wonderful family and numerous friends he made during his life journey. Tony was an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors and being on the lake. He was a member of the Westside Conservation Club and FOP Lodge #46. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, PLEASE make all memorial contributions to a charity of the donor's choice.

 

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2nd, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with Pastor Don Neeley officiating. Burial will take place at Southlawn Cemetery at a later date. His wishes were to be cremated after services, which his loving family honored. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Gish family.
